The foundation is pleased to announce a music festival at the impressive Museum of Ancient Mechanical Organs of Santa Cecilia, dedicated to the appreciation of ancient musical instruments, their history, and the wonderful music that has been passed down to us over the centuries.
A festival with talented young musicians who will not only bring the music to life but also enrich the audience with the history and curiosities of these valuable instruments.
The Program:
April 5th – Lute and Theorbo
We will hear and experience the development of the lute and the theorbo, the main instrument of the Italian basso continuo in the 17th century, but also a solo instrument with a rich musical tradition that played a significant role between Italy and the court of Louis XIV.
May 3rd – Organ
We will explore the organ, particularly the Italian-style organ, along with the associated repertoire of virtuosic toccatas, songs, and accompaniments for religious ceremonies.
June 7th – Violin and Organ
Presentation of the “prince” of Italian instruments, the violin. We will discover its repertoire, both sacred and secular, as well as its role and the development it underwent throughout the centuries.
July 27th – The Fortepiano
We will explore the precursor to the modern piano, which was born in Italy, but quickly became a European phenomenon and inspired famous composers like Mozart, Beethoven, and many others.
July 12th – Lied
August 16th – Lied
Two events dedicated to song. We will discover the most beautiful compositions in the song tradition with works by Schubert, Beethoven, Schumann, and other famous composers.
August 31st – Anniversary Workshop
“Rappresentazione di Anima et di Corpo” by Emilio dei Cavalieri, composed in Rome for the 1600th anniversary celebration.
